Austria's only contemporary circus festival, Winterfest is an annual event that sets up a spiegeltent and a couple chapiteaus in Salzburg's Volksgarten, giving big runs to a small number of companies. The festival's been going since 2001.
The 2011/12 festival has a month of performances of The 7 Fingers' sexy ('sexy') cabaret La Vie, plus showings of Atelier Lefeuvre & André's newer piece 8m3, and Le Boustrophédon's Court Miracles. For the entire festival Cirque Rasposo will be in residence with their wonderful and knowing collision of the old circus world and the new, Le Chant du Dindon, plus there's an exhibition of 'Icons/Iconoclasts: The Circus Comes To Town', a collection of 37 photographs by the American photographer Wayne Schoenfeld.
